Hi,
Don't know if this is right place:)
I was wondering what tyres. I have enquired about new slicks and it seems you can only get radial slicks now. I guess it isn't a problem but thought I would ask as I will need to get more neg.

You can still get bias/cross ply slicks. I know Hoosier still have a small selection and I think Avon do too. Do a google search on those and see what you can find ;)

hi
we changed from using cross ply to the michelin radial and just put on max allowable camber and castor . the new tyres preform so much better , and come up to temp at least 2 laps quicker. contact trevor schumack 0418 548 578

Just my 2 cents but if we can still get cross plies to suit thats what we should run, if we are supposed to be "running as we did in the day."
Wasn't a lot of radials getting around back then

So is there a real answer somewhere?
Or is it if you go to fast take them off

The bottom line is that sooner or later crossply tyres will not be redily available and the only alternative will be radials. (within the rule structure it is acceptable to use radials) If you can get cross ply tyres you will be better off as radials need much more negative camber and most of our cars don't have the provision for enough adjustment to accomodate them. The end result being uneven tyre wear and smaller contact patch.

Go the michelins. As justin says... They work so well on the escorts

Hoosier do still make bias plys in 13" which may be suitable for the RX-3, Kerry Post is the only person I am aware of who is currently running them in that size, try Kerry at his work Kerry Post Automotive in Nowra for his thoughts. Avon make many of them but when I last enquired didn't keep stock in Australia although their UK website has lots of options that no doubt Gordon Levin could get in, but they are expensive. The 225/500-13 Dunlop bias plys we used to use are no longer available and Dunlop do a range of radials instead. I think the NZ Toyota series Michelins the guys are using are a 550 diamater radial tyre from memory? Talk to Justin or Greg above about where they are getting them from. The Australian F3 front tyres may also be suitable - don't know anyone who has tried yet. Gemini has no adjustment for camber but those upper ball joints are all made with elongated holes these days (honest officer they really are!). At the end of the day, Radials are only going to get easier to come by than Bias Plys. The issue we will face as a club is whether or not to allow adjustable front ends to take advantage of the radials - a Gemini with 3-4 degrees on the front would not look right.
