:p I found this in the Memorabilia section of MY105, which is in itself kind of funny:

$20k? I can't help but think that's pretty good buying?

How about a Group C 'group buy' and we use it as punishment for anyone caught fudging the rules :D

This car is a rare piece of Aust Motor Racing history. Legendary drivers at a legendary race in one of the most controversial cars at the time. The "mobile house brick" should be restored to its Bathurst livery for preservation and not ridiculed. Is the snobbery returning?

Only if one can afford to be one.

I think the Ovlov is great value and deserves to be restored, what would it be competitive with?

Probably nothing as it wasnt competitive at Bathurst in 79. You may remember it was universally hated by the other drivers as being a mobile chicane but it complied with the rules, it was there and is a part of Bathurst legend and history.

Is it the same car as shown int the racing pics??

Have a look at the rear wheel arches. They appear more aggresive on the racing pics.. or is this an optical illusion because it was moving so fast??

Would it at least be able to play with the Geminis? (no offence to the Gemini owners)

In 1979 i was 4th year apprentice at Scuderia Veloce Lindfield, myself & another mechanic did the work on this car alongside David McKay, the vehicle had very little done to it, suspension mods, roll cage, seat, bigger motor from memory went from 2.3lt to 2.5 which was imported, piece of wire thru the grille to enable bonnet opening at the front of car, David drove the car across the Nullarbor to run it in, the car was driven to Bathurst & driven back & from memory we only used one Uniroyal tyre all weekend. The bodywork was not modified in any way, so the question about rear hweel arches must be due to angle of photo. The last i heard the other mechanic Gary Semerdjian was living on the Nthn Beaches.
David copped alot of flack over the mobile chicane as he had a big part in Australia for race cars to run slicks, then as we know entered the race on street tyres.think i still have some pics somewhere of this car in the showroom at SVM after the race

I kinda remember a uniroyal wildcat ad stating that the "cats had licked 40 slicks"... was this a result of the Volvo?

Yep it was the result of the Volvo using Uniroyal tyres

I would like to think that any car that ran at Bathurst has a place in Australian motorsport history and is worthy of restoration.

I'd be very happy to see this car this car at the Muscle Car Masters. It was driven by two champion drivers, had a lot of press coverage at the time and did commendably well in the final results. Like it or loath it, everyone seems to remember it.

And I would be more interested in seeing restored Fiats, Clubman GTs and Alfa Romeos from the period than those unfathomable Moffat/Brock/Geoghegan "Tribute" cars. After all the time and money, what have you got?

Yes, I'm with you on that point. I always try and steer people into spending there hard earned into something with an upside.

I think the VoVo is cool, especially if the new owner has a sense of humour and not one competitive bone in their body :)

Car now resides in Queensland. Congrats to the new owner and I look forward to seeing it returned to its 1979 guise and circulating. Definately a piece of Bathurst and Group C history worth saving.

I look forward to seeing it out there, how about some progress pics as you go with the resto please.

Thanks again for the well wishes guys.It shall be a while before she hits the track and the owner has to ease into the whole driving/racing thing which scares me a bit. But,I am happy to have the little beast sit in the corner as I fix her up slowly and surely.I am still planning on pitting for Pete with Jagparts for the next couple of years or so and learn more as I go.Thanks again for listening to my ramblings.Cheers Kris.

Now for someone to buy and restore the Mike Minear 360GLT.

And I know where it is! Well, I did - he might still have it.
