After the debarcle of the May Eastern Creek Historc, culminating in our non attendance due to a misunderstanding with the HSRCA, we would like to have an indication of the number of people who are intending to compete at the November HSRCA Eastern Creek Historic (Tasman Revival).
Please take the time to fill out the Expression of interest form attatched and return it by the end of May to The Group C Touring Car Association Secretary Barry Thew at barry.thew@bigpond.com (barry.thew@bigpond.com) .
Please forward this on to anyone who you think may be interested.
Regards
On behalf of the board of the GCTCA

Hi Nev,
Can you tell us what the misunderstanding was? It seemed to me that there was very little interest in members attending this event and I have no idea why. I was one of 7 members who entered and had our entries returned due to not meeting the minimum field of 15 starters.

As I have tried to tell you in the past, the problem arose from the fact that the HSRCA in their wisdon decided early at an early stage that we would not have the numbers and therefore did not invite us to the race meeting. When I enquired as to why we did not get an invite, Noel Bryen decided to give us a go but at that stage it was only 3 weeke out from the meeting and realistically it was too late to round up a decent field even after ringing around to all possible starters.

Frank,
Nev mentioned a misunderstanding which was what I asked about. I just don't see how this was a misunderstanding when the event date was listed on our coming events (and was a Championship round) since February 2010. There was no communication on this forum about us not attending the meeting (neither was there any promotion of the meeting as there was for the PI and Bathurst events) until I raised a concern 3 weeks out from the event. The HSRCA application form listed Group C & A races in their schedule and this schedule was available in early March 2010. So it seems like they did expect us to attend their meeting? My point is this...we listed a Championship Schedule for our members and then we allow one of those meetings to come and go with almost zero promotion to our own members. It is easy to blame others but perhaps we could also have been far more proactive in making sure the Round was successful.

I don't know what you want me to say, other than the end result was regretable and the Association was always of the opinion that we were running that particular event, it wasn't until some members alerted us to the fact that they hadn't recieved an entry form that we realised that there was something amiss. In retrospect maybe we should have been more proactive and in doing so may have been able to head off the following bunfight. Having said all that it would seem that the same few people are having to do all of the work while many others see fit to stand back and criticise when it all goes wrong. (yourself not included as I am aware of your efforts to help round up a grid).

Hi Frank,
It is old news now so let's move on. Can I suggest that next year we could arrange 6 non-association executives (just ordinary members) to take on a round each as a Co-ordinator to optimise our involvement? I would be happy to assist in this way. I know all the work in clubs like this falls on a few shoulders, so let's spread the load around?

Shouldn't the promotion of an event be the responsibility of the promoter, not the Assoc? It sounds to me like the HSRCA was culpable in this failure by not promoting it correctly vigoruously enough. With the detremental effect of the short notice to members, how many non members were contacted directly by the HSRCA, and could this have saved it? Could it be they are looking for a scapegoat?

GREAT MEETING .... lots of atmosphere and lovely old cars but not for Groups A & C in my opinion as it is predominantly open wheelers paradise ...
