Hi guys, I'm sure you've all heard the news re Jason and I thought I'd start this thread to give people the opprtunity to publicly show support for a fellow Muscle Car Masters competitor.
Tough fight ahead Jason, but I'm sure you'll get back on track with us next year. Hang in there!

Have any of you ever been in hospital for an operation, maybe an apendix out, tonsils out or worse? And do you remember how it made you feel to know that someone was thinking of you enough to drop by for a visit or send a get well card, I do from when I had my apendix out in 93.

195 views of this thread and the grand total of 2, yes 2 replies!

Maybe Jason won't read this thread, maybe Jason won't care anyway, but just maybe he will.

I could understand if it was dedicated to me and my well bieng as I know I'm a mouthy, outspoken individual who often rubs people the wrong way, but I must say that I'm surprised at TWO posts for Jason.:confused:

Get well Jason.

Never mind what I said, I didn't mean to take it out on the readers yesterday, I was having a bad day. I was still surprised at the response.

Hey mate we all have bad days, and we were very slack in sending our regards to Jason, all some of us needed was a kick in the pants to get us in line

Well the sad but inevitable news came today. Jason has lost the battle. Motor racing has lost a great competitor, we have lost a part time fellow racer and sadly his family has lost a husband and father. A positive smile to the end from a man who had time for anyone who wanted to talk with him. I spent some time talking with him on the Saturday afternoon at MCM this year and even though he was obviously not well, he had time for a chat.
I know I'm a nobody in the racing world but Jason had time and enthusiasm for the whole event and seemed truly unaffected by his success and his plight.
My thoughts are with his family and with his mate Paul Stubber who was so supportive of Jason, I'm sure he's saddened by today's events
Thanks for the memories and time Jason.
R. I. P. mate.

Well done Dave nice words mate.

I only met Jason a couple of times, But what a brilliant man. I did a go kart day with him at Phillip Island a couple of years ago, this was one of the highlights i've had to date. He smashed the weekly / monthly and year to date lap records. RIP jason you are a absolute legend.

Although I am not an owner of a race car, I am most certainly a motor racing fan (especially the historics, C & A etc) and I'm deeply saddened by this terrible news.

I didn't personally know the man, but had spoken to him in general chat out at Eastern Creek at the MCM's a few times and his infectious smile and charming persona made him an instant hit with my two sons and myself.

I saw him at Homebush a few weeks back, and although I didn't have the appropriate pass to get right into the pit area, my son yelled out to him and waved. Even as sick as he obviously was, he still gave that trademark smile and a wave back.

A bloody champion bloke who will be sorely missed by not only fellow competitors, but also race fans alike.

I'm sure everyone's thoughts are with his family at this terrible time.

RIP Jason

On behalf of the Association and it's members we offer our sincere condolances to his family and close friends.

Very sad to see one of the true gentlemen of V8 Supercars and motor racing in general leave us at just 35 years of age http://www.rsmotorsport.com.au/forums/images/smilies/icon_cry.gif

RIP Jason.

I only had the chance to share the race track with Jason once at MCM 2009.
He was at the front and I was mid pack so I never had the privilege of racing wheel to wheel with him.
My car stopped on the track on Saturday when a lead came off the coil and I had to sit in frustration and watch the rest of the race from the side lines.
I look back now in thanks as I had the chance to watch Jason drive the Ex HDT A9X with supreme skill and awesome car control from such a close position.
I will always cherish this memory.

He was not only a genuine nice guy but also a super talented driver.
My thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.

You're right Lindsay, it is a nice clip and definitely the way we'd like to remember him.
I was shocked when I saw the interview he did with Mark Baretta from the V8 taxi meeting, he looked so gaunt. But in what seems to have been his normal nature, had a smile on his face in the face of such sad news that the cancer had got into his bones. A "set back" I think he called it? What an admirable show of control and inner strength.

You could not meet a nicer guy, he would say hello to anyone and everyone know matter who you were. I was lucky enough to meet Jase a handful of times track days, raced with him at MCM 09 where he even came and asked me about my car (raced from the rear of the grid all be it until turn two where he lift me behind). I feel honoured to have spent time with Jase who has left us to early.

My thoughts go out to those he left behind, wife and young kids.

RIP Jason Richards

I'd like to echo the comments already made.

Like most of you, I also met Jason at several events and just admired his courage and outlook. He was a rare talent but an even rarer person with great optimism and humility.

Take a look at this interview he did:
http://www.speedcafe.com/2011/12/17/jason-richards-in-his-own-words/

It demonstrates the highs and lows he was experiencing, the terror he felt and the courage he showed, the sadness of his situation and his optimistic outlook, his love of motor racing and the tragedy of dying so young and leaving a young family fatherless and without a husband.

We won't forget him.

RIP Jason

Racing at MCM last year, Jason came down to our pit garage to thank me for the excellent dice we had. I was amazed by this generosity - but that was the measure of the man.

Sorely missed by all, but Jason could never be accused of not having a red-hot go....

Funeral today, and memorial service at Sandown in the next few weeks.

Keep the tissues handy if you watch that.

Writing birthday cards for the next 30 years for his kids. How awful would that be? He was a class act - a true gentleman. Just so friggin' nice.

Jason was one of the people I always sought out - he was a lovely bloke; about my best friend in pit lane at the V8s.

That certainly is a powerful interview. Such a composed man. I never knew the man, but can certainly see why he had so much respect by so many people. R.I.P Jason. My thoughts are with his Wife and Children.

another talented driver that will not be forgotten, but will be sadly missed.
