Hi all
Just a quick note, we have been approached about running our 2 groups at Bathurst next year. We need to have an indication of numbers of those who would be interested in running their cars up there before we can make a commitment. Anyone with cars with a Cof D or expect to get one soon I would like to hear from you.
Regards
Frank.:D

I would certainly be an entry for this event. The ultimate pinnacle for our group of historic vehicles, the image of the bathurst grid full of group c & a cars certainly brings a smile to your dial, to be able to view it from behind the steering wheel on the grid with all other historic racing cars cannot be missed.

we would defenetly consider draging our cars out of the shed for that one.

I guess one of the concerns about this would be the number of inexperienced drivers (me included) that would want to run. Bathurst would be a fairly daunting track to earn your stripes on so to speak. The last thing we want is to be peeling a number of our cars off the barriers etc.:(
But other groups and categories do it with reasonable success, so why can't we learn from them and give it a go. I think we will have lots of entries, so maybe it's limited to people who have some history of racing at X number of events in the previous 12 months.
I read the entry requirements for the FOSC meeting this year, and to just run regularity you needed a C3 license plus a certain level of previous competition history, and the requirements went up from there for racing.
So as much as we would all love to run, maybe we have to impose some degree of qualifying driving experience before you could. For me it would mean that I would have to get to more events so I could qualify, and Bathurst would be THAT much of a carrot for me that I'd do it!
Overall I think we should pursue it - it really is the holy grail for our category. However a little thought before we sign up would not go astray.
What do others think?

Hi All
Like everybody I like to run at Bathurst but not my XJS .I will run my MK2 Jag in Group N but for the group C&A cars is too hard,to set up and run for such an event, running our cars on full throttle for so long as Bathurst needs to be driven .I am not a front runner but I still don't want to build engines or smashing every year driving a Historicly important car like you all have.
I say this but if the club,s majoridy thinks we should go I will consider it.
Bob Holden most likely wants me to explain what all my concern is all about!!

I have run there 9 times in Group N, without putting a mark on the car, though i've had plenty of decent shunts elsewhere.
It all comes down to attitude, quite simply you can't approach Bathurst the way you approach a normal track. The Bathurst driver's briefings always stress this fact, if you there to win at all cost, you WILL end up in strife.
But, if you're only driving at 6 or 7 thenths, you'll still have an incredible experieince and you won't hurt the car. Our cars are built for this, so if they are properly prepared and maintained, the only part you have to worry about is the loose nut behind the wheel.

At the 24 hr a few years ago didn't the Chrysler club do a few parade laps and have to peel a number of their cars off the wall then? Remember they were parade laps only. The $$$ in damage was horrendous for their restored road cars, and could be for us too!! I'd love to do it, but a lot of people and friendships could go home badly bent and broken. I say don't do it, or any other street circuit like Clipsal and Townsville, although Albert Park also has walls it's much safer than the mountain so aim for the F1 meeting instead.

If you are stupid and inept enough to crash your car at Bathurst, or any other track, on a Parade lap you must be serious danger on the road every day. If you use that as an excuse not to run at Bathurst you'd better give up driving and become a couch potato.

i competed at the 07 even but not in my comm cup car as they were pulled out of the entry list for all the wrong reasons but any way i'd payed my entry and ALL of the NT contingent leased HQ's.
there were drivers in our group of 5 of all levels from HQ title winneres to less then rookies and dead set lunatics behind the wheel.
not 1 single incedent and the biggest dream of our lives was filled over a 3 day weekend.
they give you plenty of practice time so your not freaked out by it.
we all took it easy and our lap times improved big time with door to door and nose to tail racing.
have a go guys if it aint for you, you can park em up and enjoy the spectical.

Count me in for sure!!
One of the main reasons l purchased my Ex Tim Slako Walkinshaw was in the hope that one day l would get to race the car at Bathurst one day.
All we have to do is treat the track with the extra respect that it demands.

Couldn't agree more, but how much do you trust everyone else out there at the same time?? Surely you've raced with some complete and utter dickheads, where you've taken a big deep breath before you made the passing move on haven't you?? End result still equals a bent, vaulable piece of history.

G'day All, I would definitely be keen to run at Bathurst next year (or even this year if the opportunity arose!). My application for the COD has been submitted and have entered the July Morgan Park meeting, so will be ready. I would also look forward to having a race at Lakeside again so hopefully that plan becomes reality. Wayne

The FOSC meetings up there are very very strict on no contact and as Dave said they drive this home at the drivers Briefing. If there is contact those drivers go home unless it is proven to be an act of god. They dont allow trophies so it takes the fun out of it for those that want to bend their car for a $5 piece of plastic. They have master sessions on friday morning where you can go around and familiarise with one of their distinguished list of drivers.
I have been to their last 2 meetings up there and I can say the disparody in our class was such that you had the track to yourself most of the time. Its usually sorted out in the first 2 laps. I dont believe CAMS will allow any P plate drivers to enter so some degree of experience is needed.
Maybe Group C for its higher average speeds should have fresh Targeted scrutiny before the meeting. The Biante guys and the quicker Nc guys are pretty stout around there. I recall in 05 one of the Camaros got clocked at just under 300k so there is probably only a couple of C/A people that will exceed their times?
I dont know if a Sierra will be any different to the mini ;)so I would love to go if I have done lots of testing and a few races before then.

OK, we need to start with getting an idea of who would like to run at a Bathurst Easter FOSC meeting. Attached is an Expression of Interest form. If you would seriously like to run, can you download, complete the form and either mail it or email it back to Barry.
We'd like this completed asap so don't delay and get this back by the 14th July.

I can answer my own question, isn't the internet amazing? Easter Sunday falls on the 4th of April 2010.
